Being able to share Mass (virtually) with our parishioners warmed our hearts this past weekend. To view Sunday mass again, please click HERE. We will add new Masses each weekend.

Whether ours or another televised mass, we hope you enjoyed Mass in your homes this past Sunday. We are new to delivering Mass online and hope to improve, learning as we go. We are looking forward to sharing Easter with you in this way. Please keep tuning in. We will continue to let you know as we release more messages and Masses.

With Governor Newsom’s order to stay-at-home released at the end of last week, we made the very difficult decision to close the Basilica and the Pastoral Center to any visitors. We are so concerned for all of you and hope you will stay home and stay safe. During this time, we hope you find a quiet place at home or in your garden to pray.

Each ministry is finding ways to support our parish community online, by phone, and in other creative ways. Here are some links to our current, new and growing social media ways to connect:

Please know that Msgr. Michael and Fr. Sergio are both celebrating Mass daily, in private, so all calendared mass intentions will be celebrated as currently scheduled.

Thank you and God Bless our parish families,

For Serra's Pantry to Parishioners:

Thank you for your help in caring for our most vulnerable. Serra’s Pantry and Outreach Ministry is taking precautions during the outbreak of the (COVID-19) Coronavirus. The health of our families and volunteers continue to be our priority. At this time, our Pantry will be closed beginning Thursday, March 19, 2020 and will resume operation as conditions warrant. Our food volume has decreased and many of our volunteers and clients are at risk. However, we are working on obtaining a list of elderly/disabled shut-ins who do not have family members who need our assistance with food or Rx pick-ups. Anyone wishing to make any donations will help many in this time of crisis, from electrical and gas utility assistance to food.

Family and friends can make donations online to Serra’s Pantry and Outreach Ministry through our online giving service found HERE. Our Outreach Ministry will remain open and will continue with business through phone and email as a support and resource referral site. To continue to assist with utilities to the most vulnerable, financial support is greatly needed. Anyone needing financial assistance will be seen by appointment only. It’s important we come together and support one another as a community during this time of uncertainty.

Do not fear: I am with you; do not be anxious: I am your God.

I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.

~Isaiah 41:10

May God Bless us with His Grace and Peace during this difficult time.

MARCH 12, 2020

Mission Basilica Parish is following the guidance of the Bishop of Orange Kevin Vann, as well as the California Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, with regards to current measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19/Coronavirus.

The safety of our parishioners, volunteers and employees is our highest priority. As the current status of the Coronavirus changes day-to-day, pastoral staff is taking all necessary steps to offer a safe place of solace and prayer to our community. We will update you as needed on any program changes as they happen.

Regarding Lenten Dinners:

For the safety of all concerned, our Mission Basilica Knights have chosen to cancel the Lenten Dinners beginning this Friday until further notice. We will keep you informed of any future changes to this event.

Regarding Changes During Mass:

The faithful are asked to refrain from holding hands during the Our Father and not to shake hands at the sign of peace.

Communion from the cup has been discontinued until further notice.

Holy water will not be placed in the fonts.

All Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who volunteer their assistance must sanitize their hands before and after distributing Holy Communion. If they wish to temporarily remove themselves from this ministry, they are excused.

Regarding Cleaning Procedures on Campus:

Our professional Mission custodial staff has expanded hours and duties assigned to clean all areas of the Campus, 7 days a week from the time we open to close. Our cleaning procedures are carefully tracked and recorded in all restrooms, kitchens, and break rooms located around the Mission Campus.

Effective immediately, staff have expanded the frequency of cleaning and sanitizing surfaces including handles, equipment, devices, counters and pews. We have installed hand-sanitizer in the Pastoral Center and are applying regularly. We are asking staff and volunteers to self-quarantine by staying home if sick.
