During Confirmation you receive the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit (Wisdom, Understanding, Right Judgment, Courage, Knowledge, Reverence and Wonder and Awe in God’s Presence) and are told to use them for the greater glory of God. The Confirmation Program at Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano is the “Holy Spirit’s Users Manual.” It shows you how to live out the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit in your daily life. Our program will share with you how to get the most out of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Our Confirmation Preparation Program is modeled on the “Guidelines for Confirmation,” developed by the Diocese of Orange. It is a two-year program in which doctrine, spiritual formation, works of charity and liturgical celebrations are integrated into a comprehensive process.
Through prayers, retreats, classes, small group discussions, service projects and working with an adult spiritual mentor we call Sponsors, young people will be able to recognize and understand the presence of the Holy Spirit in themselves and in His people, and will be able to identify themselves as active members of the Christian Community.
Our Confirmation Preparation Program is open to all high school youth - even the unbaptized or those who have not yet received their first Holy Communion. The Confirmation Candidate must be in at least 9th grade to begin the Confirmation Preparation Process and the earliest candidates can be confirmed in the Spirit is in the spring of their 10th grade year.
